We operate independently to strengthen the protection of human rights and equality laws, aiming to promote awareness, understanding, and safeguarding of human rights, while encouraging public authorities to adhere to the Human Rights Act and protect those most at risk of violations. Our efforts include holding governments and public service providers accountable for human rights breaches using our legal powers, monitoring the human rights situation, and reporting our findings with recommendations to the government and Parliament. Additionally, we provide advice on the human rights implications of policies and proposed legislation through parliamentary briefings and responding to government consultations.
